CAPTAIN'S LOGS

Title: More Questions Than Answers: Countdown to Armageddon
Location: The USS Eagle
Setting: Sickbay

The XO continues to help the CO with finishing up details trying to restore his human appearance. They are almost done. At about half an hour since they first came in, the CMO arrived with some good news. The Empress was still in critical condition, but her fever had stopped climbing.

The Captain let out a deep breath. Now at least there was a chance she could talk to her people and get them to stop this war. There was also then a chance she'd live and maybe, just maybe, they could have a future together. He planned to visit her first, then Ambassador Releth. With the shots, and the cosmetic changes to help erase his Galadonese looks, he hoped to talk Ambassador Tureth into getting his fleet to leave or at least wait outside the system.

The Captain said "bye" to Jim and hesitating for a brief second, entered the private room in the back of Sickbay. Still suffering the affects of the Ankhanahkstoi, he came to the Empress bedside. Nouri knelt down to pray and talk to her even though he knew she could probably not hear him.

The CMO looked on sadly. She knew it was not easy for the Captain to love again since his wife died and she knew that even under the best of circumstances that his falling in love with the Empress was just going to cause him more grief. "How by the gods of Dorant?" she asked herself, "could this ever work between and Empress of a non-Federation world and a Starfleet captain?"

She also knew that his feelings might all just be a side effect of that aborted ritual that he shared with the Empress. But what bothered her most was that she had learned some disturbing things about the Empress when they shared thoughts telepathically. Some of these would hurt the Captain. She also knew that the Empress had no problems using the Captain if she felt she needed to gain an advantage for her people.

Dr. Laleia-Lii stood by bound by two oaths in conflict, her stomach in a knot like her ethics. What was she to do?

Hail the Captain of the USS Eagle
